English optician, Edward Scarlett, opened his eponymous store in Dean St., Soho in 1705, and invented the contemporary spectacle frame in 1727.

It remains the world's oldest optical brand.

Ed Scarlett has collaborated with COOL-RAY who produced the original polarised Clip-On shades in the 1940s, and the world's first "Flip-Up" Clip-Ons in 1963.
