1962 Land Rover Series 2a 88" Soft Top
£34,995 | Location: United Kingdom
We are delighted to offer this lovely example of a Series 2a. The vehicle was subject to a full nut and bolt restoration over a 20 month period. The vehicle has been rebuilt to original specification and a vast majority of original parts were reused and new old stock parts where sourced where required.
First built 11th December 1961 and despatched 14th December 1961 to Walter E Sturgess and Sons Limited, Leicester. The vehicle was then first registered for road use 1st January 1962.
The vehicle is in by far the best colour combination Pastel Green with matching wheels which is correct for this year with a new Sand canvas. The vehicle benefits from a Fairey Overdrive which makes it a joy to drive on dual carriageways, there is also a period upgrade of an SU carburettor.
The vehicle is in immaculate condition and drives very well. The vehicle has always been dry stored and has travelled very few dry miles since the restoration was completed.
The bodywork on this example is immaculate and all the panels are straight with no dents or scraps. The cappings and windscreen have been removed and re galvanised all the correct rivets have been used during the restoration showing the attention to detail.
The interior has benefited from new grey elephant hide seats. The dash is unmarked and benefits from a smiths heater.
All windows open, all the window channels are good since the vehicle has had a fully restoration.
The load area is exceptionally clean and doesn't show any sights of heavy use and is presented with a rubber mat. Matching rear bench seats can be fitted should the buyer request.
The vehicle has one of the best engine bays we have seen on a Series 2a, extremely clean. The head has been refurbished and now benefits from harden valves and so you no longer need to worry about putting in lead additive. The block has also been refurbished and repainted in the correct Duck Egg Blue.
The factory fitted engine busts into life at the turn of the key. It is apparent that this is a vehicle that has been maintained and covered low mileage it runs as quiet and smooth as any Series Land Rover that we have ever had.
A joy to drive and such fun, the vehicle will have a full 12-month MOT from the day of sale. Four wheel drive and low range engage, as they should. The gears change up and down as they should it has a very quiet gearbox which is a good sign of it's light use over the years. This vehicle will be supplied fully serviced including engine, filter, main gearbox, transfer box, overdrive, diffs and swivels.
The steering is as it should be and the vehicle doesn't wonder on the road like some series vehicles do. All the tyres have been replaced and are in very good condition. The gearbox has been rebuilt.
The vehicle has benefited from a new galvanised Richards chassis, so the vehicle is as clean underneath as on top any inspection is welcome.
On offer is an unmolested and well-restored Series 2a Softop in immaculate restored condition. All the numbers match - the chassis numbers on the plates are the same as on the log book registration document.
This Land Rover has obviously been cared for and cherished by its previous owners and thousands of pounds were spent on it during it's restoration, parts receipts present in the history file total £14,000, a vast majority of replacement parts are new old stock from Dunsfold DLR. The rebuild took approximately 1025 hours. There are documented photographs also which support the rebuild through all stages and an extensive history file.
A comprehensive list of all the works carried out to the vehicle can be shown to any interested party.
It is very solid example and is ready to use and enjoy.
This is a fantastic example of a 58-year-old Series Land Rover. You will have to go a long way to find a better vehicle.
Anything on this Land Rover that required attention has been done it is now faultless.
